Omatek Computers receives ISO award as tech minister visits factory

By MUYIWA ONI
Leading computer company Omatek Computers Plc has received the much coveted ISO certification at a ceremony that coincided with the visit of Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology Dr Alhassans Baku Zaku to Omatek’s factory in Lagos.

An impressed Dr Zaku during the facility tour said Omatek had achieved a striong sense of standard in its quest to provide top of the range products. “It is so good to see our engineers work with such dedication and attention to detail and very soon Nigeria will be transferring technology to other countries. Nigerians are hard working and honest people and we wish more indigenous companies could follow in the steps of Omatek Computers,” said Dr Zaku.

CEO of Omatek Plc Mrs. Florence Seriki after receiving the ISO Quality Award on behalf of the company said that quality will always distinct itself. “We have decided to work with quality and we have made it our watchword and we will continue to be leaders in that field. We thank God for sustaining quality from the beginning of this factory which is a completely knock down factory which makes this quality certificate for Omatek totally different from what others are receiving because this is the first time a completely knock down factory will collect this award so for us it is an attestation of all the hard work.

“We have always bought our raw materials from the same factories the foreign companies buy from; we have always encouraged local content and policies because if you are buying the raw materials from the same factories it does not make sense if we Africans cannot patronize our own. At the end of the day the same ones the foreign companies buy comes back here to Africa.

“I am proud to tell you that Omatek now has a twenty four hour power solution by the Omatek engineering services limited, a subsidiary of the company; we have a hybrid which is a result of research and development, of solar, UPS inverter and battery then we combine with LED bulbs and today the LED bulbs make you save up to eighty five percent of power consumption, you can imagine if you have ten 60 watts bulbs that’s six thousand watts but if you have ten of our equivalent which is about three point three eighty watts, so six thousand reduced to three eighty to four hundred, you can imagine the kind of percentage that we have here.

“With that you can afford solar and reduce your use of generator and diesel. If you want to carry all your air conditioners it is either you go back to generator or you invest more and increase the specification of your solar alternate energy. We have made this product very affordable because with one point five and two million depending on your specification. Schools are beginning to look at this with Governor Oni of Ekiti state paving the way; he just launched the first one with Omatek in Baptist High School, Igede.”
