Ajayi goes home

Final rites of passage for pioneer Director General
(DG) of the National Information Technology
Development Agency (NITDA) Professor Gabriel Olalere
Ajayi ends today at the sleepy town of Ilesha.

Ilesha is a small semi-urban town in South-West
Nigeria. Ajayi was buried amidst encomiums from friends and professional colleagues with whom he build a formidable engineering faculty at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife and those with whom he worked to set up the NITDA.

The renowned academic and professor of computer
engineering died last December of illness suspected to
be cancer. No formal disclosure has been made by the
family.

As a mark of tribute to one of Africa’s leading ICT
champions, IT Edge (print edition Jan/Feb 2005)
dedicates its editorial to extol the virtue of the man
Ajayi.

Editorial: Professor Gabriel Ajayi (1941 - 2004)
