CWC Summit to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s telecom
sector
An elite group of senior government officials, leading
operators and industry experts will be joining Nigeria’s
Communications Minister Chief Cornelius Adebayo, to
highlight the implications and future of Nigeria’s booming
telecom market at the CWC’s Fourth International Nigerian
Telecommunications Summit slated to hold in September,
this year, in Abuja.
With over 10 million mobile subscribers, Nigeria is the
fourth largest cellular telecommunications market in
Africa and has one of the brightest spots for mobile value
added services. The CWC’s telecom summit is expected to
create an interactive window for the international and
local
business communities as well as policy makers to explore
ways of tapping into these immense opportunities.
Following three years in London, the CWC conference has
‘come home’ to Abuja this year at the request of Chief
Adebayo. This highly prestigious and timely event will
encapsulate how to sustain growth in Nigeria’s
telecommunications sector.
Topics to be discussed include; government and corporate
strategies for sector development and capacity building,
the move from market liberalisation to competition
management, challenges and opportunities of rural
expansion, seamless integration of technologies, customer
focus: enhancing quality of service and meeting the needs
of corporate users, and indigenous participation and the
wider impact of telecommunications growth
Sponsors to date include MTN, M-Tel, Vee Networks Limited
and Ericsson. They have pledged their support to the
programme and CEO MTN, Sifiso Dabengwa, CEO, Nitel, A.J
Mashi, CEO, M-Tel, Edwin Moore Momife and Chief
Regulatory Officer, Vee Networks Limited J. P Snijders
will be among those presenting their views of the market
and strategies for sustainable growth at the event to run
from 19-20 September 2005.
