Ghana IXP goes into operation

Ghana Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is now up and running after a long wait. From the Kofi Annan Centre where it is already in operation, the IXP has its initial four ISPs connected. They are Ecoband, K-Net, Busy Internet and Teledata. A 60-metre mast to create wireless connections to potential members is to be installed soon.

As a temporary measure, Ecoband has installed facilities to allow itself and two other providers co-operating on their wi-fi networks to get connected. Other ISPs: Internet Ghana, Netplux, IDN and Third Rail are expcted to hook up to the IXP as Ghana seeks to make local Internet traffic local and reduce the financial cost on consumption of international bandwidth.
