Globacom opens fibre ring
These
are interesting times for network operators in
Nigeria’s boisterous telecom sector as Globacom
announced the commercial deployment of its fibre
network in Nigeria.
In Abuja, rival mobile operator Mtel unfolded plans for a
General Packet Radio Service(GPRS)in March to
become the second mobile operator to offer the service
after Glo Mobile.
About three hundred subscribers are expected to begin
the first phase of the service launch, the company
said through an official statement released by its new
PR managers LXR8 headed by former PR Manager of MTN
Calixthus Okoruwa. [Details soon]
Globacom new fibre route covers the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano
axis. The Lagos - Epe - Ijebu/Ode - Ore -Benin; the Lagos-Sagamu-
Abeo-kuta-Owode-Ibadan rings are expected to follow soon.
The fibre ring for the Ibadan - Ilorin -
Minna-Abuja-Makurdi-Port-Harcourt-Owerri-Enugu-
Onitsha - Benin routes would be completed later in the
year, said senior officials of the company in Lagos
during a recent facility tour by some media houses
including IT Edge.
