Omatek opens fresh vista for banks

With N25 billion hanging over their heads to
recapitalise before December 2005 or get their license
revoked, banks may save on their yearly huge
operational costs if they considered deploying locally
manufactured computer hardware.

To help banks cut cost and still drive their
operations with top range computer hardware, Nigeria’s
leading computer manufacturers Omatek has unloaded new
PCs and notebooks into the market built to fit the
sensitive banking terrain. The new products come with
slim casings, state of the art Intel multitasking fast
processors and more rugged motherboards to meet the
extremely demanding 24/7 challenges of the banking
sectors.

Intel’s multitask processors, Hyperthreading, allows
users to load different suites of applications that
could run simultaneously without reducing the speed of
work. “It is the newest solution in the market that
allows various levels of transactions to be carried
out at the optimum speed that the workplace
environment in banks requires,” said Chief Executive
Officer of Omatek Mrs. Florence Seriki.

The PC’s slimmer casings would allow banks to still
assert the distinct corporate image that the financial
sector thrives on. The new Centurio notebooks come in
small stylishly designed sizes for the business
executive. “This is not just a top of the range mobile
office but a machine that expresses your taste and
instantly establishes you as serious corporate
executive,” said Seriki in Lagos while unveiling the
new products.

Banks are heavy consumers of IT and over N18.5 billion
has been invested by banks on IT infrastructures in
the last three years. A good percentage of this has
gone into acquisition of computer hardware most of
which were outsourced from abroad. For banks, Omatek’s
new products open a fresh window for banks to deploy
high-on-task systems at lower costs with the added
advantage of enjoying after sales support that is just
outside their doors.

What this means is that banks which are under pressure
to beef up their capital base, save on expenditures
and create more viable revenue streams to remain in
business could make between 35% to 40% savings by
deploying local computer hardware to power their
operations.

Omatek which was recently unveiled officially at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja by President Obasanjo won
the endorsement of the International
Telecommunications Union (ITU) last May at the Telecom
Africa event that held in Cairo, Egypt. The ITU’s
scribe Yoshio Utsumi had described Omatek system as a
practical testimonial of Africa’s ability to produce
world class IT equipment. The ITU purchased an Omatek
system for use at the Geneva’s headquarters of the
world body in charge of telecommunications. The
Nigerian computer company remains the only one that
has recorded significant inroad in other African
markets.

Omatek maintains a strong partnership with Samsung and
Intel among other major IT players to strengthen its
market presence. A recent endorsement by the Nigerian
Society of Engineers (NSE) of its products as meeting
the standard engineering requirements further
confirmed the company’s strong attachment to quality.
The company recently concluded an in-house training on
notebook technology in its factory for its engineering
team. The training was facilitated by a team of world
class notebooks experts from the factory that
manufactures notebooks for global brands such as
Compaq and HP.
