Reconstitute National ICT Strategic Plan Committee
The National ICT Strategic Action Plan Committee has
been reconstituted and restructured under a new chairman.
He is Dr Armstrong Takang, Chief Executive Officer of
Alteq (ICT) limited. Takang takes over from Prof
A. Adekunle of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), who has
been given another national assignment.
The new changes by government are to help the Committee
meet its original objective of drawing up a blueprint to
guide the practical execution of the National IT Policy.
While thanking the government for affording
him the opportunity to serve, Takang assured that the
Committee would not fail to meet the timeframe set for
submission of the final report.
The Committee was first constituted last year by the
Minister of Science and Technology, Prof Isoun Turner with
members drawn from cross sections of the society. They
include the academia, the private sector, federal
ministries and agencies, civil societies and the media,
the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and the Computer
Professional Registrations Registration Council of Nigeria
(CPN).
Work had commenced last year under the former chairman but
slowed down owing to inadequate funding to finance the
various programmes designed by the different
sub-committees that make up the Committee. Now, work
has commenced in earnest and a new 11-week time frame
given for all sub-committees to submit their reports. The
first phase of the presentation is September and all
groups or sub-committees are to have their documents
ready.
The sub-committees include Human Resource Development, IT
Popularisation & Awareness, Infrastructure, National
Security & Law Enforcement,
Health and Commerce among others. Members include Dalhatu
Hamza of the US Embassy, Prof. Gabriel Ajayi DG of NITDA,
Sam Juwe of the NCS, Dr M. Lecky of the Federal Ministry
of Health, Imo Ukpong of SITA, Vincent
Olatunji of NITDA, Segun Oruame of IT Edge, and Mr. O.
Popoola of NITDA.
Others are Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem of the Nigerian Internet
Group (NIG), Mr. Vesper Owei of NITPA, Florence Iroanya of
Alteq, Kem Bonta of NITDA, Dr Moses Ubaru of NITDA, among
others.
The sub-committees are to begin public sittings soon to
involve a wider segment of stakeholders.
