Sensutech adds new solution for mobile aches

There are over 8.2 million mobile phones in Nigeria
and in only three years of GSM operation. The good
news ends there. There are equal numbers of aches in
the mobile networks.

In Black Africa’s most populous country of over 130
million people, increased numbers of mobile phones
have not been matched by good quality delivery.

But this is not peculiar to Nigeria as facts in the
more developed mobile market of Europe indicate.
Quality of service is an issue and would still be a
major regulatory issue in 2005.

One company poised to help operators address this
problem is the UK based Sensustech Ltd. Sensutech was
founded less than six months ago, to, in a release by
company’s spokesman Robin Burton, revolutionise the
methods of determining true quality of mobile
communication around the world.

According to its CEO, Dr Malek Ladki, quality is set
to become the key issue for mobile operators over the
next few years. His words: “Quality is set to become
the new battleground for mobile phone operators. Most
people, in Western Europe at least, now have a phone
and operators will have to compete for existing phone
users. Recent research shows that at least a third of
users are unhappy with the quality available and at
least 10% intend to churn. I suspect that the number
would be a lot bigger if the customers believed that a
genuinely better alternative was available.”

Sensustech, which exhibited at the recently held GSM
Africa Cape Town, plans official launch for February
2005. But it has its eyes set on Nigeria where five
GSM operators share the current subscribers base of
over 8 million. The networks are expected to grow
subscription to above 10 million before ending of
2005.
“The user is only interested in whether he can make a
call, avoid being dropped and both hear and be heard
accurately. That is the true measure of network
quality…and precisely what our service will be
measuring,” added Ladki.

Sensustech’s history in network engineering and
telecom system pre-dates the introduction of GSM.
It’s team of engineers have implemented networks which
today support in excess of 50 million subscribers.
The team has developed a reputation for innovation in
areas as diverse as network monitoring and pre-pay
platform design.
