Wireless Trade trades Internet as you go
By Eunice Ayegboyin
Net hungry Nigerians now only need N65, 000 entry fee
and a monthly subscription of N15, 000 to stay
connected all the time even when they are on the move
inside Lagos infamous traffic jams.
Wireless Trade Nigeria Limited (WTL) has unbundled its
MyGoNet service to join the turf as an Internet
Service provider. The company has earned some scores
in other areas within Nigeria’s fledgling telecom
sector since it first opened shop selling handsets and
high end solutions to other telecom players.
Now it is offering mobile Internet access with a data
card that provides instant Internet access and allows
users to send or receive critical information anytime
and anywhere. To get going, subscribers need a laptop
with a mobile data card or PCMCI card slot and a WTL
MyGoNet card.
The new service is built on existing CDMA networks
owned by a number of private telecom operators within
Lagos with Starcomms and Reltel featuring prominently.
Plans for a nation-wide launch are in the offing but
would depend on market acceptance within Lagos.
Company’s arrowhead for its new service Lukman is
convinced the service would attract sufficient
patronage for “those who must stay connected all the
time.” For these groups in Nigeria’s increasingly
hungry data market, there is “unlimited access” with
speed of up to 56kbps.
